Research and Development Programme

The Research and Development (R&D) Programme supports renewable energy technologies that will increase the commercial deployment of renewable energy technology in Australia.

Up to $300 million in grants has been allocated to develop ARENA’s R&D portfolio from 2013 to 2022.

Providing support to world-class research and development projects is a key part of ARENA’s strategy to increase the use of renewable energy technologies in Australia by making them competitive with conventional energy sources.

  • Round 2: Industry-researcher collaboration (applications closed)

The second round of the R&D Programme promotes industry and research partnerships that seek to develop and commercialise renewable energy technologies, and to provide a broader range of energy options to reduce future energy costs.

  • Round 1: Solar excellence (applications closed)

ARENA is providing $21.5 million funding for 12 cutting edge solar R&D projects, ranging from enhancing existing technologies to advancing emerging technologies in solar photovoltaics (PV), solar thermal and solar storage.
