Australia’s renewable hydrogen industry is shifting gears from demonstration to implementation. That comes with a long list of challenges. This month’s newsletter shines the spotlight on two projects from across the development timeline and digs into the lessons they’ve learnt.

Project Yuri is currently Australia’s largest electrolyser project under construction. Once complete, the 10MW electrolyser will be powered by an 18MW solar farm and 8MW battery to produce renewable hydrogen. The neighbouring Yara Pilbara Fertilisers’ liquid ammonia plant (one of the largest in the world) will use this renewable hydrogen to offset some of the fossil-fuel derived hydrogen that is normally used to make ammonia. The project has tackled many challenges and its first Lessons Learnt Report documents issues ranging from sourcing energy management systems through to monitoring the losses caused by dirt accumulating on the solar panels.
