On 13 May 2014 the Australian Government announced its intention to abolish ARENA and merge its functions into the Department of Industry.
To give effect to this announcement, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (Repeal) Bill 2014 was tabled in the House of Representatives on 19 June.
The Senate has referred the legislation to the Senate Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report. The Committee is accepting submissions to the inquiry until 16 July 2014 and is due to report to the Senate on 4 September 2014.
ARENA will continue to keep stakeholders informed of the progress of the Repeal Bill.
