The potential for waste from homes and industry to be used to generate cost-effective renewable energy is being investigated with support from ARENA.
ARENA is providing $2.1 million funding to Visy towards a $4.2 million feasibility study to investigate using municipal, commercial and industry waste otherwise destined for landfill to generate clean renewable electricity in Tumut, and share the knowledge gleaned with the industry.
The study will consider the environmental impacts of converting renewable waste into energy in the Australian context. It will also look at sustainable methods of disposing of non-renewable and non-recyclable waste, which are unavoidable by-products of waste to energy.
