Summary
Birdwood Business Energy Pty Ltd (Birdwood) is partnering with the Australian National University (ANU), the Energy Efficiency Council (EEC) and delivery partners to deliver a Flexibility Report Card Platform (FRCP) that informs commercial and industrial (C&I) businesses of potential flexible load opportunities within their sites (the Project).
Need
The challenge of maximum and minimum system load is recognised as a key barrier in the energy transition, with load flexibility identified as a key enabler. A major barrier to unlocking flexibility at C&I sites is the cost of collecting data and educating sites / customers.
Action
The Project includes the development and delivery of the FRCP that informs users of potential flexible load within their sites.
The Project will deliver 100 FRCs through the FRCP and identify 2 – 5 MW of total load flexibility. The FRCP will unlock load flexibility at C&I sites by providing users (solar installers and energy efficiency experts) with a tool to conduct standardised flexibility assessments for C&I customers.
Outcome
The objectives for the Project will be achieved through the following Outcomes:
- Reducing barriers to renewable energy uptake through a reduction in the cost to identify load flexibility by more than 50% relative to current approaches at C&I sites;
- Improving commercial readiness of renewable energy technologies by demonstrating a streamlined process for developing FRCs with identified opportunities to invest in load flexibility; and
- Providing ‘warm’ leads and sales opportunities to energy management service providers.
