Summary

This project will complete a bankable feasibility study for the installation of approximately 11.6MW of solar on 12 industrial roof-tops in the Brisbane suburb of Eagle Farm.

How the project works

Solar installations on industrial roof tops today are generally limited in scale by the local network owner requiring a zero-export device to be installed. This limits the scale of systems that can be constructed on large industrial roof-spaces to the peak energy load on that site. This limit on export is largely driven by the network’s requirement of maintaining stability of the system across the year and therefore is driven by a limited number of low demand days.

Area of innovation

To enable medium-scale solar to be installed, the project will address the technical, regulatory and commercial issues that currently prevent solar installations that exceed the expected capacity of the incumbent load.

Benefit

The project, by addressing the technical, regulatory and commercial barriers preventing solar installations on large industrial roof-spaces could open up a significant market opportunity, allowing system owners to recoup value from their investment via energy exports and ensure that the broader system reliability would not be impacted.
