ARENA’s three day A-Lab Incubate 2018 on the hunt for the next big thing
Applications have opened for ARENA’s biggest ever A-Lab – Incubate 2018. Ten teams of innovators will be brought together to shape projects that advance the renewable energy transition.
Incubate 2018 is the fourteenth A-Lab event ARENA has hosted, harnessing a broad cross-section of expertise from inside and outside the electricity industry.
The innovation lab will allow teams with a smart idea to fast track and troubleshoot their concept and develop a business case ready to pitch to investors, all in just three days.
A-Lab isn’t just for energy experts – whether you are an industrial designer with a great product idea, or a software developer with a plan to harness the growing capacity of distributed energy resources, we want you to throw your hat in the ring. If you work for a company that uses a lot of energy but wants to become cleaner and greener, Incubate 2018 could be for you too.
Participants will be supported by ARENA staff, the A-Lab team, and have the opportunity to pitch to the “Dolphin Tank”, an expert panel of the industry’s best and brightest. They will help to develop ideas into a well-articulated concept, supported by a meaningful project plan, with a budget and understanding of the resources needed to make it a reality.
A-Lab events are a great place to develop ideas, create new networks of collaborators, build internal buy-in within your organisation, or shape proposals for partnerships with ARENA.
Previous “Dolphins” include AEMO CEO Audrey Ziebelman, Energy Networks Australia CEO Andrew Dillon, CSIRO Research Director Glenn Platt and Chair of AEMO Expert Panel Chloe Munroe.
Incubate 2018 will focus will on three of ARENA’s investment priorities:
- Delivering secure & reliable electricity
- Improving energy productivity
- Exporting renewable energy
When assessing the impact of the first 11 A-Lab events, 21 projects were found to have progressed to the development phase from the 243 concepts generated. Of these 21 projects, 14 have received funding from ARENA. A-Lab is the launch pad for great ideas.
