This report addresses the lessons learnt during the BESS construction and connection process relating to enabling inverters with Grid Forming Mode (GFM) capability.

Key Results and Lessons Learnt:
- Compatability issues between different inverter and controller OEMs: An issue in interfacing requirements was identified between the PPC and GFM inverters supplied by separate OEMs. This could have been avoided if OEMs were selected in terms of operational and performance requirements to ensure compatibility and right capabilities between inverters and PPC.
- Discrepancies in power plant controller cycle time: Well into the connection process, there was an identified gap in communication and control loop time between what third-party OEM PPC’s simulated versus actual results. The knowledge gap was the interfacing requirements between the third-party OEM’s PPC, the inverter OEM, and the EPC contractor; these need to be understood at both the software and hardware level in the future.
