Background
On 21 June 2023, the Hon Minister Chris Bowen MP, Minister for Climate Change and Energy and the Hon Minister Catherine King MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government announced the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Funding Initiative (SAF Funding Initiative).
Australia’s Bioenergy Roadmap identified aviation as a hard-to-abate industry where market opportunities could be unlocked from Australia’s bioenergy sector. In November 2021, the Federal Government allocated $30 million of funding to the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to support the development of an advanced biofuels sector.
Following stakeholder consultation and market developments since this time, the scope of this initiative is targeted towards the development of a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry with production from Renewable Feedstocks in Australia.
How it works
