With the recent wrap up of three ARENA-funded EV smart charging projects, it’s timely to reflect on key insights about the innovative methods and technologies utilised to manage EV charging.
Overall, trials found that baseline (or unmanaged) charging behaviour for participants was mainly taking place outside of peak load – tempering concerns that EVs are an overwhelming addition to the network’s peak load times. Analysis of these projects show that customers are happy to have their charging managed by another party if they have an ability to opt out when they need to.
