The Demand Response Consumer Insights Report report explores how the Demand Response trial played out over the first summer in the residential context.
The program is designed for a specific purpose AEMO/ARENA initiated the demand response trials in part to test if Australian households could help alleviate supply/demand pressures in time of need.
The program works through intermediation of electricity retailers, who have a direct (billing) relationship with their customers.
AEMO currently uses the household behavioural demand response as a ‘last resort’, after other means to balance supply and demand are exhausted. This means not many ‘events’ are called each summer.
