Report extract
CSIRO, in partnership with Fortescue, is progressing the development of a next-generation axial flow electrolyser to enable efficient and scalable green hydrogen production. This milestone report highlights advances in electrocatalyst development, coating methods for porous electrodes, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling to optimise flow and bubble removal – key factors in improving electrolyser performance. Electrochemical testing of the first prototype confirmed enhanced efficiency and durability under elevated temperature and alkaline conditions. These insights are guiding design refinements and system optimisation, with the next phase focused on delivering a 2 kW electrolyser and initiating commercialisation activities toward a 200 kW demonstration plant.
