This second Lessons Learnt Report provides insights into charger hardware design, off-market vs on-market metering, and NSW service and installation rules.

As this project finalises its design phase, a number of learnings have been made which have industry-wide relevance. These are summarised below:
1.1 “Poles aren’t Poles”
Not all power and street lighting poles are suitable for the attachment of EV chargers. Working with the local DNSP, Intellihub has identified unsuitable pole configurations and structures. In order to facilitate the pole selection and nomination process, with scaled deployment in mind where minimal variations are required, Intellihub developed a Site Nomination Guidance document for councils which was built into an online tool designed to be used from a mobile phone. This tool steps a field worker through the selection process, streamlining the workflow, reducing the number of ineligible pole nominations, saving project partners time and effort. This tool continues to be refined and updated as we become aware of new requirements.
