The University of Wollongong and Blue Scope Steel have won an Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) award for their ARENA-supported Optimising thin-film Building Integrated Photovoltaic Thermal for retrofitting project.
The team’s rooftop PV thermal system with energy storage, designed to be a cost-effective, environmentally friendly heating, cooling and electricity solution for existing buildings, won the 2013 AIRAH – Denis Joseph Award for Innovative Use of Solar Energy in Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC&R).
In August, the PV thermal roofing retrofit solution developed in this project was also part of the Team UOW Illawarra Flame House which won the 2013 Solar Decathlon in China.
