Peak Demand Reduction using Solar and Storage

  • $450k

    ARENA Funding

  • $1.23m

    Total Project Value

United Energy (UE) is to undertake a targeted deployment of behind the meter installations of solar and storage systems located at constrained or overloaded substations in order to validate that the units can be controlled in concert to defer investment in planned substation augmentation projects.

UE has identified ten constrained (overloaded) distribution substations within its distribution network for rectification, whereby solar and storage is more economic than traditional network augmentation. These substations require a total of 42 customers to be recruited for behind the meter installations of solar and storage in order to bring the substations back to within its power rating.

UE expect to install and operate the solar storage systems this year and undertake testing in the summer 2017/18.
