How to Apply for Funding
Background
Announced in 2020, the Future Fuels Fund was initially a $71.9 million fund to support public charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles, as well as hydrogen and biofuel technologies. We awarded $24.55 million under the Future Fuels Fund (Round 1) to support the roll-out of 403 public electric vehicle fast charging stations nationwide.
In 2021, the Australian Government expanded the Fund with a further $177.7 million, bringing the total to nearly $250 million, to increase the roll-out of enabling infrastructure in Australia.
The expanded fund includes support for business fleets, new technologies for heavy and long-distance vehicles, public charging and hydrogen refuelling stations. It also aims to incentivise household smart chargers to boost the reliability of local electricity networks.
How it works
The Future Fuels Program has been developed under the Future Fuels Fund to enable the demonstration and deployment of new zero emissions vehicle technologies. The Program is ongoing involving two stages: 1) Expressions of Interest and 2) Full Application stage.
We will assess applications on how well they contribute to the Program objectives and align with the following Program Focus Areas:
- Support the integration of battery electric vehicles into light vehicle fleets
- Support the integration of battery electric vehicles into heavy vehicle fleets
- Commercialise hydrogen as a transport fuel.
The Program Focus Areas are in place until December 2022 and will be updated periodically. Applications are expected to be assessed every two months (depending on applications received).
