This Report details the learnings and feasibility findings of integrating a thermal energy storage (TES) system into Torrens Island B Power Station (TIPS).
Report extract
The AGL Thermal Storage at Torrens Island B Power Station Feasibility Study evaluated the technical and commercial feasibility of integrating a thermal energy storage (TES) solution at Torrens Island B Power Station (TIPS B) and replacing one 200 megawatt (MW) gas-fired generation unit (the Project).
While the project found it was technically feasible to integrate TES technology into TIPS B, it identified some technical matters that would result in significant increase in costs, design complexities and development constraints, impacting the overall commercial viability of the project. However the characteristics of the TES system were found to be well-suited to a range of industries needing high-temperature energy storage.
