Summary

The ASTRI Australian Solar Thermal Research Institute is a consortium of leading Australian research institutions collaborating on ‘over the horizon’ concentrating solar power (CSP) research projects.

Need

The core outcome of ASTRI is to develop the next generation of CSP technologies, in order to deliver a cheaper and more reliable supply of electricity in Australia.

The ASTRI project will achieve its outcomes by leveraging on the US Department of Energy initiatives into the Australian CSP industry, and mobilising the international CSP industry to invest in Australia. It is coordinating a focused program, informed by an overarching economic model.

Together, the ASTRI partner organisations are producing large-scale collaboration on CSP across Australia, increasing the understanding, awareness, demonstration, application and commercialisation of CSP and CST research within Australia and internationally. ASTRI aims to develop a step-change in the commitment of Australian researchers to the success of CSP, as well as highly-trained graduates, ready to deliver success in future CSP industries.
