Summary

The National Ultrafast EV Charging Infrastructure Network project by Evie Networks will be deploying Australia’s largest ultra-fast charging infrastructure network. This project will play a significant role in improving Australia’s electric vehicle (EV) readiness by removing driver range anxiety, which is one of the major barriers that limits the adoption of EVs.

The charging stations will be spaced to enable EV drivers to confidently drive between Australia’s major cities, with convenient, safe ultra-fast charging sites providing the ability to charge in minutes.

How the project works

The National Ultrafast EV Charging Infrastructure Network project by Evie Networks involves the development and construction of at least 42 ultra-fast EV charging sites located along major highways across the east coast of Australia including Adelaide, Perth and Tasmania. Spaced approximately 150km apart, these charging stations will support the full range of passenger and light commercial EVs.

Each site will be built with at least two DC ultra-fast chargers, each providing up to 350 kW. All sites will be powered by renewable energy.

The project will allow all EV models currently available for sale in Australia to charge through its stations.

Area of innovation

The ultra-fast charging technology allows an EV to add 200 to 400 kilometres of range in 15 minutes. This is 15 times faster than commercially available domestic charging points.

Benefit

The Evie charging network will provide all EV drivers with the ability to charge their vehicles when travelling between major cities of Australia.

This charging network will complement existing infrastructure and aims to catalyse the EV industry by providing EV drivers with the necessary charging coverage to reduce range anxiety when travelling across Australia.
